When you think of toxic foods for your furry little friend, is the first thing that comes to mind chocolate? Growing up, I knew that giving your dog chocolate was a no-no, but I never thought that something as simple as grapes could hurt her.
Up until I got my own dog, whom I have to pay for food, vet bills, insurance, dental care, treats, etc.. I didn’t consider the fact that there could/would be multiple things that could hurt or even kill my sweet pup; But after extensive research, I discovered that there is a long list of harmful, toxic, and dangerous foods.
- Chocolate – Including white, milk, and dark chocolate
- Onions – Red, white, green, etc. Also includes onion powder
- Grapes & raisins
- Garlic
- Alcohol
- Drugs – Including over the counter, prescription, and recreational. Never give your animal medication without speaking to a veterinarian.
- Coffee and other caffeinated beverages
- Candy/Gum – A lot of candy contains Xylitol. Xylitol is incredibly toxic and can cause irreversible damage in as little as 1 hour.
- Apple seeds
- Apricot pits
- Avocados
- Cherry pits
- Macadamia nuts
- Moldy foods
- Mushroom plants
- Mustard seeds
- Peach pits
- Potato leaves and stems (green parts)
- Rhubarb leaves
- Salt
- Tomato leaves and stems (green parts)
- Walnuts
- Yeast dough
There are also other t0xic things that you might have in your home that you didn’t know can harm your pet.
- Tea tree oil
- Flea and Tick Prevention oils
- Dog toys – Some dog toys, if consumed, can be incredibly harmful. They can cause blockage, internal bleeding, etc.
- Dog bones – If swallowed, they can cause blockage, internal bleeding, etc.
