Toxic and Dangerous Foods

When you think of toxic foods for your furry little friend, is the first thing that comes to mind chocolate? Growing up, I knew that giving your dog chocolate was a no-no, but I never thought that something as simple as grapes could hurt her.

Up until I got my own dog, whom I have to pay for food, vet bills, insurance, dental care, treats, etc.. I didn’t consider the fact that there could/would be multiple things that could hurt or even kill my sweet pup; But after extensive research, I discovered that there is a long list of harmful, toxic, and dangerous foods.

  1. Chocolate – Including white, milk, and dark chocolate
  2. Onions – Red, white, green, etc. Also includes onion powder
  3. Grapes & raisins
  4. Garlic
  5. Alcohol
  6. Drugs – Including over the counter, prescription, and recreational. Never give your animal medication without speaking to a veterinarian.
  7. Coffee and other caffeinated beverages
  8. Candy/Gum – A lot of candy contains Xylitol. Xylitol is incredibly toxic and can cause irreversible damage in as little as 1 hour.
  9. Apple seeds
  10. Apricot pits
  11. Avocados
  12. Cherry pits
  13. Macadamia nuts
  14. Moldy foods
  15. Mushroom plants
  16. Mustard seeds
  17. Peach pits
  18. Potato leaves and stems (green parts)
  19. Rhubarb leaves
  20. Salt
  21. Tomato leaves and stems (green parts)
  22. Walnuts
  23. Yeast dough

There are also other t0xic things that you might have in your home that you didn’t know can harm your pet.

  1. Tea tree oil
  2. Flea and Tick Prevention oils
  3. Dog toys – Some dog toys, if consumed, can be incredibly harmful. They can cause blockage, internal bleeding, etc.
  4. Dog bones – If swallowed, they can cause blockage, internal bleeding, etc.
