How to Handle the Beach

First and foremost: Make sure you’re at a pet-friendly beach! Not all beaches allow animals. Please also note that the only reason a dog should be on a non-pet friendly beach is if it is a task trained service dogs. ESA’s do not count as service dogs.

Once you’ve found a pet-friendly beach, make sure you have all the necessities for your best bud.

This includes but is not limited to:

An umbrella (Shade is crucial to ensure they do not get overheated)
Water bowl and freshwater (sun and saltwater leads to dehydration, dehydration can lead to sickness and even death)
A toy- Keep your dog engaged and having fun!
A frozen Kong (not necessary but helps to keep them cool and content)
Sun protectant – I use Petkin SPF 15 spray
Doggie Bags!!
Beach leash
Collar
A towel
Lifevest – if you plan on being in the water and allowing your dog to swim. The waves and currents can be unpredictable and it is incredibly important to make sure that your dog is safe.

With these things, you should be able to tackle the beach.

Be sure to watch for the signs of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and other issues. Always make sure your dog has access to clean water!

PS – Wash your dog and its paws thoroughly (especially in between paw pads). If you don’t, it can cause chaffing, sores, and even lead to infection.
